Committees

NSERC's governing body is a Council composed of 18 distinguished Canadians. Grants and scholarships are awarded through a competitive peer review process that involves hundreds of volunteers who meet in selection committees to make decisions.

The Council is advised by various standing and advisory committees that are guided by a peer review Process.

The Executive Committee exercises the functions of the Council between Council meetings and acts as a governance, human resources, risk management and oversight committee.

The Independent Audit Committee exercises oversight of core areas of NSERC management, control and accountability, including reporting. This is done in an integrated, risk-focused and systematic way.
